Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard

(Renewable Energy Obligation System)

The Mandatory Obligation System for Renewable Energy Supply is a system that mandates
large-scale power generation companies to generate power using renewable energy.
(The obligated entities under this system are power generation companies with a capacity of 500MW or more.)

These companies are required to introduce renewable energy generation facilities or
purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) to fulfill their mandatory allocation quotas.

  • SMP (System Marginal Price)
The price at which KEPCO purchases electricity from power generation companies.
In other words, the revenue generated from selling electricity at all power plants,
is uniformly calculated based on the SMP (System Marginal Price)
  • REC (Renewable Energy Certificate)
The certificate proving that the obligated entity has
    supplied energy using renewable energy
